But thats a weird code?braintree is 01376 That's the code for Brentwood. Insurance has jumped in coast this year. My car was £198 last year and this year is £232 thats a 16.7% rise Checked the "Meerkat" and I cannot get a cheaper policy.

Hoe do you put a value on these bikes Hi nelly, My first resto was my RM6, i added up all i had spent on it looked at the total and thought they will never believe that so i just said £600 each for all the restored ones and £400 each for the unrestored ones. Yours are top grade concourse restorations so i would be aiming up in the £800-1000 I'm sure other members will comment so wait and see what they suggest.

Hi neil dont be frightend to give the broker your honest opinion on the value of the bike.these people are not daft by any means.and they know how much time effort and money goes into projects.so as posted if you think 800_1000 then tell them and if they want an assesor to come out and look at the bike let them but to be honest most brokers will normally except the word of the custormer.i dont have any issues with my brokers tell them my valuation its accepted and business as usual

Total spend on my first with the initial purchase, some of the tools needed, spare parts and having the parts sprayed (won't use him again) I spent £1200. Reckon I could do it on Tango's budget now and depends on the level of finish. Dread to think what CB1 spent on his AV88 :-)

Ray, John, nelly, having looked again at this i am way off with the valuation of £800-1000 for a full resto as i neglected to include the dreaded re-chroming. Needs a rethink.

well neil if thats the value you think then go with that, and like tango i have also spent numerous pounds on re-chroming,i have recently bought a 1957 1010,for 250 pounds but once v5d i will be putting a value of 400 pounds on her,

What about companies like swinton etc...mainstream?

Post by moby54 on Nov 3, 2017 1:50:44 GMT
well to be honest neil when i my black moby was up for re-newal a couple of years ago, i tried swinton, and they could not touch the company i am with now and the renewal was 30 pounds different with swinton, thats why i am with the company old r-h,so at least steer clear of swinton,

I tried a bike specialist and they wouldn't even insure my AV42. Got recommended to Footman James who have been excellent. They give a discount too if your a member of the EEAC (worth joining just for that). But be aware your insurance is conditional on staying a member

that should be no problem neil, but alot of insurance companies wont insure anything under 6months,but still its worth a try,and as you are only usuing them in the summer, kent event on then [lol]

I run modern classic cars and old motorcycles as daily drivers. By far the best service I have had so far is with the two James companies. Ether Footman James or Peter James they asked I take photographs and a vat registered dealer to value at rebuild costs. My local bike dealer was only to happy to oblige and was genuinely interested in my old BMW motorcycle. Both insurance companies mentioned above take into account the cost to restore to the standard presented and a dealer valuation is quick and simple to obtain. So if your bike cost £4,000 to restore then that’s what it cost and that’s what Is wanted in the event of an accident. You can also for a slightly lesser payout but your machine back to rebuild or use as parts as you wish. The down side of running with classic insurance is in most cases limited miles per year ,say 5,000 . And that you do not gain any no claims bonus. In my case I run a classic car , bike and campervan all three on agreed value and fully comp. But the cost of all three is less than my wife pays for her modern car with me as a named driver and both of us with 100% NCB

Funnily enough my Footman James renewal notice has just arrived. It was £70.45 last year plus arrangement fees (£20 from memory) This years is £73.71 + £15.00 arrangement fee + £88.71 but does include European Travel so I may see if that can be removed (not going to the IoW). Also I will try for a quote from R+H offered by John.
