NOVA?

I've now got a dating certificate on it's way to me for my Moby, but am told she's an import and never been registered. I also was told that before the DVLA will register it, it will have to have been NOVA'd. On looking at the government website for that, it seems to only give the option to fill one out if you are actually importing it from the EU now.
Does anyone have any experience of having to do these retrospectively so you don't have to pay any import duty as I bought it when it's been in the UK for many, many years?
Cheers
Bri

There won't be any duty due. I've done a couple and would advise filling in a form if you can find it. Never had a problem.

It doesn't matter that you haven't personally imported it, just remember that you only have 14 days to submit a NOVA form after either the "Acquisition" (purchase) OR the "Arrival in the UK" of a 'means of transport'. You have no way of knowing WHEN it arrived, you can only state the date you acquired the Moby. You don't have to send a dated receipt for the purchase, and you can truthfully state that it came to the UK from France. So just make sure HMRC receive the NOVA form no later than 14 days after your stated Acquisition date. Any longer than 14 days, and HMRC will charge a late submission penalty of £5 per day, even when they decide, (as they will), that no VAT is due, because the vehicle is too old to attract VAT.

I did the NOVA online, so assume the HMRC get it automatically as the response was almost immeadiate that no VAT was due,

I’ve just applied and got NOVA certificates for two 1950s Bianchi's which came from Italy into the UK years ago but where never registered. Once you’ve applied online for your Government gateway access account and password it’s fairly straight forward. I didn’t have a receipt so just made up a fictitious sounding Italian name and address and said no money changed hands as they were a gift and bought into the UK last week. Yes it’s untrue but NOVA is aimed at car importers bringing hundreds of new cars into the UK so need to pay tax. The Government isn’t interested in me and you but have to go through the process.

getting a nova is a simple process,i just applied online and got the nova straight away, you dont recieve a paper number , the hmrc just add it to the database and dvla are linked to it .
I recently did a moby that had been imported years ago,no questions asked but i did have a reciet from previous owner if they had, very simple process inline through a gateway account .
