www.onecalldirect.co.uk I just got a quote from the recommeded insurer here and their quick quote online suggested £89 basic. Tried Meerkats and they cannot see my bike even though its visible on DVLA site, is that because it's on SORN? The extra maybe that even though I have a full license for bikes I havent insured one for a very long time. I will give the above a call when ready :-) Cheers Swarmed

I have about 11 bikes of various types, condition and cc with Peter James Insurance on a multibike classic policy for less than £90. I would absolutely recommend Peter James.

I only have one bike and setting everything on their quoting tool I still get £89 which for a 49cc bike with a fixed mileage does seem a little pricey.

That is because that's their minimum premium. It only starts to go up when the total value of all bikes gets to about £10000. Great for multi bike owners. Best get some more bikes. The more you have, the more you save.

I think the float was sticking due to the shaft on the bottom catching in the blind hole in the reservoir. I will rebuild it this afternoon. Also reading on here I noticed that the slow running screw actually lifts the slide and is not a 'bleed' hole so I may sort that problem at the same time. Happy days. I am trying to find a private drive or carpark to check running and bed in the brakes then off for the MOT soon.

has the float got a slight hole in it ray, Hi John No first thing I checked I submerged it in clean warm water and no bubbles and nothing gets in it. Well cleaned its a brass one and not a sign of a hole anywhere. A new carb I think, I need reliablity and after all she deserves the best :-)

hi ray is the carb a wide body type,i may have one in moby the cave, Thanks John, but I bit the bullet and bought a new carb. There is a sign of a small crack on the float chamber cap on the old one. So I have started a cave too now. :-)

blooming heck ray i near dare bet i have a carb top in the cave,so dont disgard the old carb, No problem it will be in the spares box. I am assuming its a crack as it looks also like a casting deformaty. Bit of dye penetrant needed :-)

You can see from the geometry of the lid and the bowl and the way they're wrenched together, it's not made to grow old. And as some owners believe, you can repair a carb with a sledgehammer, used ones are often in a sorry state. That's why i'm so happy with a new, original Gürtner. The standard of finish may not be like with the early 60's ones, but if they fail, you mostly have yourself to blame, probably for using too big a hammer as a maintainance tool. And yes, keep the old one. I have loads of wrecks. You never now, they might contain gold. In fifty years or so. Or next week! Ha ha
