Noticed on the insurance comparison sites that they are now listing a Carb change as a "modification"

Doesn’t cost anything John just covers you.
Like adding a towbar to your car insurance

Changes have to be notified otherwise they are not covering the ped they believe they are.
Including. CC alteration Electronic ignition Carburettor Exhaust system Handlebars Foot rests
To name a few.
All cost nothing

Well Now! And then you need to look at whether any of your changes alter the historic MOT exempt status.

Just renewed my bike insurance with Footman James and mentioned the carb change. It was noted but no charge for the change.

Well Now! And then you need to look at whether any of your changes alter the historic MOT exempt status. I think non original parts are allowed if the oem parts are no longer made eg tyres service items and other pattern parts but putting a new 50cc ktm motocross engine in your raleigh wisp wont be allowed

Noticed on the insurance comparison sites that they are now listing a Carb change as a "modification" I guess you mean a bigger carburettor ??---I'm, right now, about to change mine for the same size one.

I have often thought how can an owner of a 70 year old moped be expected to know that every nut bolt and washer is factory fitted and correct as in theory the could refuse a claim on many “restored” bikes

If you look into the policies they do list what should be notified, so nuts and washers are excused. Mind you if you fitted cardboard brake linings they may get a bit fussy if you have an expensive accident. I only mentioned my carb as I had to talk to them about my renewal.
